Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to contact us if your question is not listed below.

Do your team speak English?

All the team at Body Bureau are fluent English, as are the majority of the surgeons and staff in our partner clinics who have experience in treating foreign patients. For your extra benefit we also have staff and partners who are fluent in both languages so communication is easy. But if anything is not clear, just ask and we will happily verify any information or answer any questions you may have.

Is weight-loss surgery the right method for me?

Our team of experts follow evidence-based treatment guidelines, which recommend this way of treatment if:

  • Diets and/or other weight loss methods were not effective;
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is greater than 40 or greater than 35 and you are suffering from other overweight associated chronic conditions (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, etc.) which could potentially be altered along with the loss of weight.
  • You understand that weight-loss operation itself is just a tool towards achieving the ultimate results and other factors such as your compliance with advice regarding changing your eating habits and adopting a healthy lifestyle are also equally important.

Which operation is the most suitable for me?

It is important to understand that operation in itself is a huge undertaking and a challenge to your body’s physiology. All the operations pose different challenges in terms of risk profile which you will be able to discuss in great detail with your surgeon during the consultation.

How much weight should I expect to lose?

Weight loss is a gradual process, which will largely depend on the type of the operation and your body’s physiology and profile. In most cases, the greatest weight-loss is observed after 1.5 – 2 years after surgery and is as much as 60- 70% of the excess body weight.

Can I bring a friend or family member along with me?

Absolutely, and we recommend it. The price plan on our special offer page has been specially created for just one person, but we have made sure it is as affordable as possible for a friend or family member to join you. Please bear in mind that all meals apart from breakfast at the hotel will need to be met by yourself and your companion.  After your operation only you will be able to stay in the hospital, and your companion will stay in the hotel, where you will transfer back the day after. See our pricing page for more details.

Do you offer finance?

We do not currently offer this as our procedures are much more affordable than in the UK, but there are specialist medical finance institutions out there. Please note we are not affiliated with any of them and cannot offer you advice on these.

What if there are complications after the surgery?

Complications are very rare, but as with all operations, there is always a small possibility. After your surgery, the doctor will want to see you again to make sure you are safe and well, and to ensure they are happy for you to return home.

As with all medical procedures, we recommend patients take out specialist insurance that covers ‘travelling for medical treatment’ as normal travel insurance does not cover this.

Is it safe to fly after surgery?

Yes, the doctor will want to see you after the operation to ensure there are no concerns regarding this. They will not allow you to fly unless they believe it is safe.

What can I eat after surgery?

Your eating habits will change after the surgery and a special diet will need to be followed. Your Surgeon will advise you individually about this after the operation. You will need to have several smaller meals a day and they will need to be nutritionally balanced to support your system, recovery and weight loss.

It is important to realise that surgery is the first step on your journey to a slimmer, healthier you. You will need to be positive about lifestyle and diet changes as well – but these will all reward you handsomely if you stick to them. Your behavioural patterns will need to change, how and what to eat for instance, but this will be advised in more depth at a later date.

Will I have excess loose skin after I have lost weight?

Depending on your age and your skin’s elasticity you may need to have some cosmetic surgery procedure to remove any excess skin that does not shrink with your weight. Usual operations people have after they get their weight down to a desired level (after about 2 years) include tummy tuck, breast lift, liposuction, arm lift, thigh lift etc. all of which we can advise on when and if the time comes.

Will I have on-going contact after the procedure?

Yes, you can contact the staff at Body Bureau at any time if you have any queries, but you will also be able to contact your surgeon as well. It is also likely they will want regular updates from you so they can follow your progress.
